Montgomery Ward was a long standing catalog and retail seller of general merchandise including lawn and garden equipment. Various suppliers provided rebranded equipment that Montgomery Ward sold under their Garden Mark, Powr Kraft and Montgomery Ward labels. From 1960 through most of the 1970's Gilson Brothers Company of Plymouth Wisconsin provided much of this equipment. The Gilson produced models can be identified by the GIL prefix of the model number on the ID tag. The model number of Gilson built MW units will have the prefix GIL. Prior to the Gilson era, Simplicity built many of the MW units, these machines carry the SIM model prefix. Following Gilson, MTD built equipment for MW, these machines have the TMO model number prefix.

These single stage machines hit the market in 1966 and ran into the very early 70's. Engines ranged from 4 to 7 HP. Most models were 26 inches wide. The snow moving collector design got repurposed in creating the single stage tractor attachments by increasing the width and adding the mounts.

These Early Gear Drive models were launched in 1966 and Montgomery Ward sold them through the decade. Horse powers ranged from 5 to 7. Most models were 26 inch wide but some 22 inch 5 HP models were built. Most 5 HP models were single speed. 6 and 7 HP models have a 2 speed mechanism that controlled forward and reverse. Montgomery Ward models got semi-pneumatic tires while the comparable Gilsons got pneumatic tires.

The 3 speedUnitrol branded for Montgomery Ward got 5,7, and 8 HP engines over the years. Most models were 26 inch wide but some 22 inch 5 HP models were built. Montgomery Ward models got semi-pneumatic tires while the comparable Gilsons got pneumatic tires. Montgomery Ward sold these mahcines through the end of the Gilson relationship in the late 1970's.

Originally a 4 HP, 18 inch machine it grew to 5 HP, 24 inchs. These lighter 2 stage machines were popular for smaller spaces and with operators looking for something easier to handle. Many of these Montgomery Ward units are still in service.

These models with a vertical shaft engine and unconventional drive train were popular with Montgomery Ward customers.

Gilson was an innovator of these compact 2 stroke models and many were branded for Montgomery Ward.
